Everything you need to know about "Layering", a new skincare trend

What is Layering?

Layering is a method of skin care originating from Asia, particularly Japan and South Korea, and it has become increasingly popular worldwide in recent years.

Layering involves applying several skincare products in successive layers to maximize the benefits of each product.

The Steps of Layering

The concept of layering consists of applying several layers of skincare products to the skin, each with a specific purpose, in a precise order. The idea is to optimize the benefits of different products by applying them in a certain order, allowing for better absorption and more effective results.

Layering can include several steps, but the exact number of products used will depend on your individual skincare needs.

In general, a typical layering routine includes the following steps:

  1. Cleansing: the first step of layering involves cleansing the skin to remove impurities, excess oil, and makeup residue. This step may include an oil-based cleanser to remove oil-based impurities, followed by a water-based cleanser to remove remaining impurities. This is known as "Double Cleansing."
  2. Toning the skin: after cleansing, you can apply a toner to rebalance the skin's pH and prepare it to absorb the skincare products in the subsequent steps.
  3. Serums: the next step of layering involves applying serums, which are highly concentrated skincare products designed to treat specific concerns such as wrinkles, acne, dark spots, discoloration, or dehydration. You can apply several serums depending on your skincare needs, starting with the lightest serums and finishing with the thickest for effective layering.
  4. Moisturizers: to optimize layering, you can apply a moisturizer to seal in moisture and protect your skin from external aggressors.
  5. Sunscreen: sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful UV rays is an important step in a layering routine.

Layering may seem tedious, but it can actually be very relaxing and yield spectacular results for the skin's appearance.

Please note that one person's layering routine is not another's. Therefore, it is important to experiment and find the skincare routine that best suits your skin type and individual needs.

Are there other steps in layering?

Yes, it is possible to add the Exfoliation step once a week after cleansing the skin.

You can also add a Face Mask.

You can use an eye contour cream (to be used after the serum step) or apply eye patches (this time to be used after makeup removal and before the serum).

The use of Essences is increasingly popular. Essences are light, hydrating liquids that help hydrate and prepare the skin for subsequent steps.

The Risks of Layering

The risk of layering is using skincare products that contradict each other. The action of one could inhibit the action of the other, thus rendering it ineffective.
The second risk of layering is having your skin peel due to too many superimposed products.

It is therefore necessary to seek advice for a personalized layering routine tailored to your skin.
